Britain was forecasted snow for last weekend but I'd heard that before and it never came to anything. Saturday morning though woke up to a few snowflakes falling. Still that doesn't stop training.
Tacked up and left with a hyper Chador (clearly has not forgotten her high point days) and off we went with the snowflakes beginning to stick. The roads were quiet, the snow was falling and I was riding my ex-championship horse, what could be better? An hour out and back and everywhere was covered in a blanket of white. Shandy is still barefoot and we didn't slip or slide at all. Despite the fact its a wet climate her feet are looking quite good and she's coping with it all pretty well, but then she hasn't had a shoe on in over 2 years! I'll be glad when winter is over and her feet can dry out a bit. Then will be the test. Fingers crossed she'll be seen on the circuit sometime in the near future.
Sunday morning there was no white winter wonderland to wake up to. It had rained in the night so all had disappeared by morning. Had no problems getting to the yard and then taking Barik out training along some of the bridleways, although I think it was more mud skiing downhill on some of the tracks.
Djelanza has also had a venture out in hand. He is now 9 months old and a real character, so like his mother Chador. We walked up and down the lane with him being nosey and looking in everyone's gardens and then stopped for a snack along the way. Was a bit over keen though to get back to the yard when he heard Chador and Barik calling but a strong striding walk isn't too bad to handle. He's now also seen a car and a bike to go by and apart from being a bit skittish when the car drove by a little too fast he dealt with the motorised monsters very well. I have 2 years to wait till I can jump on this little chap (he really is not little) and I can't wait. He is still entire but the date will have to be set as I don't have the facilities to keep a stallion.
Snow seems to have put a big stopper to most of the country but all is fine here.
