The National Awards Evening
The National AGM and Awards Evening are held every year at the Daventry Hotel. It is always a great evening due to it being the one time we can all catch up and socialise without having to run off and see to our horses. This is the first year in which I would not be sitting on the Young Rider table but would have to embrace being a Senior. So I joined my old Yorkshire Team mates at their table.
Hair, make up and dresses on we were ready to party, starting our evening on Champagne! 3 course meal, which left me feeling fully stuffed (maybe I'll make FEI weight after all) and onto the awards. So many awards to some great people and horses for the year of 2012!
The Windard trophy is awarded to the best horse in their first season of endurance races. "Barik would of been eligible for this award, if he'd done a few more rides" I whispered to Laura. The announcement for first place went to Barik with our photo from King's Forest Young Horse race which we won popped up on screen. I sat there completely dumbfounded and in shock! It took Laura to give me a bit of a push to get up to go and get Barik's trophy. I had absolutely no idea but what an achievement for Barik! This was my first time to win something Nationally for one of my horses too so was a great achievement!
Barik also came 3rd in the Putnik Trophy which is awarded to the Racehorse to Endurance horse. He has been awarded his 800km rosette too.
The night carried on into the early hours with much dancing and laughter til the point my heels thoroughly hurt my feet (I should stick to riding boots).
Offas Dyke Awards Evening
I belong to the Offas Dyke Endurance group and their awards evening is held two weeks after the National AGM.
My Gran has sponsored a trophy in the memory of her International mare Rough Close Lady which is awarded to the Top Horse in our group in their first ER seasons. This was awarded to Barik!
Well what a year it has been and I'm so proud of how my horses have performed. Barik has gained his FEI** qualification and gained a National Award
Chador has come back into endurance doing low level rides and barefoot too! My Gran has now taken her on as her mount for next year.
Djelanza is now coming up 2 and is just as cheeky as ever. Watching racing round the paddock as fast as possible does make me wonder if maybe he should compete in Arab racing before endurance just like his parents......
A thoroughly brilliant end to 2012 and I am looking forward to 2013!
