Following the end of a great 2013 with Barik winning a numerous number of awards and trophies both at the Offas Dyke Group and National.
Offas Dyke Endurance Group: Bonanza Trophy for the high point registered pure Arab in ER/CER rides, Madoc Trophy for the high point horse in GER/CER rides and the Mitchell Trophy for the high point Arab Racehorse to Endurance Horse.
Barik also won the National award for high point Arab Racehorse to Endurance Horse, the G Putnik Trophy.
I was part of the Offas Dyke Team riding Bright Dawn for the Welsh Inter-Group Challenge where Offas Dyke came in 1st place. That is another red rosette to add to Dawn's wall!
Over the past winter Barik has had time off to recuperate after our busy season last year. Whilst Shandy has been in light work. Offas Dyke group have scheduled schooling lessons through winter and into the new year which I have attended on either Shandy, Barik and also Dawn. They have each made improvements with their flexibility and balance from these schooling sessions. as well as having goals to each work on individually. Tomorrow we have our last schooling session planned where I will be riding both Dawn and Barik.
The weather has not been too much of a problem with training as we have trained either in Haugh Woods, Staunton woods, or Mortimer's Forest. Barik has now finished his 6 week walk work which I incorporate in each horse's fittening program every year in order to strengthen up muscles and tendon's before moving on to trot and eventually canter work. The fields however resemble a bog and the horses have their own paddling pool which Shandy and Djelanza enjoy rolling in!
I have so far started to map out my up coming ride plan with Barik, Dawn, Shandy and also rides on other owner's horses. I shall not have a weekend free and am thoroughly looking forward to the 2014 season ahead.
My main aim for these year is to ultimately be selected with Barik for the 2014 World Equestrian Games due to be held in August in Normandy, France. So watch this space.......
