Chador (Djelfor x WMA Rachael)
Chador aka Shandy is a pure french arab mare, 1998 . Owned since 2004 and began her Endurance career with Abbi. Originally trained for racing, Shandy was retrained for a career within Endurance,
Abbi spent much time schooling Shandy during her early months to improve her muscular strength and reponses to aids from the rider. This gave them the early building blocks of a strong partnership between horse and rider.
By the end of 2005 Shandy was at Intermediate level and was flying through the distances with ease. 2006 saw Shandy and Abbi compete their first Endurance Race of 80kms to gain 4th place. This was to be the beginning of many achievements together.
2007 Shandy and Abbi competed in their first FEI ride at Cirencester Park. This was a 120km*** race which they completed at 14kph, coming in 3rd place only 2 minutes behind 2nd from UAE. This gave them the qualification they needed for the Young Rider Great Britain Team. The pair went to Kreuth in Germany 2 months later to compete in the Young Rider Nations Cup 120km*** race. Here they competed against other riders from Europe and came home with a Silver Team medal and a qualification to the European Championships.
2008 Shandy and Abbi spent their time in training for the Young Rider European Championships which were to be held in Oviedo, Spain. During this year the pair competed in Preliminary Dressage under the watchful eye of Melanie Phillips (Prix St George dressage rider). In their first test together they gained a respectable 64%. In September of 2008, Abbi and Shandy were selected as individualists to go to Spain and compete in the European Championships. This was a very mountainess and tough course physically and mentally for both horse and rider. There was a high attrition rate across the field with barely half the competitors completing. The pair came in a respectable 29th position against Europe.
Shandy gave birth to her first foal in 2011, named Djelanza by Chatanz. She bred her second foal, Perchance, who is by Persiflage from Biddesden Stud.
