I left Britain on the 1st June from Heathrow airport and flew the 12 hours to Johannesburg. From here I flew for another hour and 20 minutes to Port Elizabeth where i was met by Lucy Dixon from Perseverance Stud. We had a 2 and half hour journey across country to reach Graaf-Reinet. Whilst on route we stopped off at a Game Shop to purchase some game meat known as Droewors ( means dried sausage) and Biltomg these were meat from an animal called Kudu which is like a large deer. For someone whose fussy about what they eat I found I rather liked this. The farm uses a lot of their own meat and game meat so I don't think I shall have a problem with the cuisine here.
The farm has about 3000 hectares of land both hilly and flat which are separated into large fields known as 'camps'. The horses and cattle are kept in these camps and are moved between each of them. There are about 100+ horses here at the moment so there is plenty of ranch/ stock work to be done.
I've now spent my first night here and will head out to check the colts in their camp on Neptune with Rosemary and Lucy riding there horses.
